Leah Allington Nielsen, 80, passed away after an extended battle of Alzheimer's on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in her sleep.
She was born November 7, 1930 to Walter Henry Allington and Arthaleen Wright Allington in Holladay Utah. She graduated from Granite High School in 1949. Then attended Utah State University.
On December 7, 1950 she married the love of her life and her best friend Dean Lamar Nielsen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Five weeks later Dean left to serve an LDS mission in the Northwest States Mission. After he returned they started their family and had 2 sons and 3 daughters.
Leah loved life and was always on the go. She enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with her family. She always caught the biggest fish. She was an incredible cook and seamstress. She loved sports especially softball and loved to play games with the family. She was very patient, kind, and totally devoted to her family.
Leah loved associating with other people and never had an unkind word to say about anyone.
She loved the gospel and held many positions in the church. She especially loved being Relief Society President and devoted many hours serving her neighbors and friends. She was a very compassionate person and a great example to all.
Leah is survived by her loving husband Dean, five children: Lynn (Cindy) Nielsen, Gary (Peggi) Nielsen, Karen Thomas, Terri (Brad) Clontz, and Laurie (John) Smith, 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her 3 sisters and 2 brothers; Phyllis (Frank) Turner, Arleen (Dean) Smart, Ray Allington, Frank (Linda) Allington, Fay (Rich) Burnett and many loving nieces and nephews.
Her parents, 2 sisters, Lucille Allington and Doris Allington, Wendy Allington sister-in-law, Dave Thomas son-in-law and LuAnn Thomas Nielsen daughter-in-law, all preceded her in death.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank all those at Manor Care who were so good to Leah.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011, 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley 3rd Ward, 5640 S. 850 E., South Ogden. The viewing is 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd. Ogden.
