|Birth: ||Nov. 23, 1854|

Mrs. Phoebe Alling was one of the few remaining Barnes pioneers. Her sudden passing was a shock to the community.
For a few days she had been visiting at the home of Mrs. Ellen Titus and Mrs. Maude Ford. She seemed in good health, having attended church and Sunday School that morning.
About 10 p.m. she complained of pain around the heart. After simple remedies were tried but proved to be ineffective, her physician and children were called. Mr. & Mrs. Myron Alling of Barnes, and Mrs. John Keller of Sheffield arrived shortly before her death occurred at 11:15 p.m.
Mrs. Alling spent her entire life in this area. She was the last member of the Whitcomb family, pioneer settlers of Sheffied Twp.
She was also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Maude Gilbert of Electra, Texas; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the home of Mr. & Mrs. John Keller on Thursday with interment made in the Barnes Cemetery.
