She attended Sacred Heart School in Havre and worked as a nurse in Havre for several years. She later worked in Washington, California, and Montana as a bookeeper for a construction firm.

VerDel passed away on October 1, 1976 in Chester, Montana, after a lengthy illness. At her request her body has been given for medical research.
