Doris Collene Allender, 98, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 13, 2014.

She was born on August 6, 1915 in Fairbury, Nebraska, the daughter of Ellet & Jessie (Preston) Adkins. She was raised and attended school in Fairbury, Neb.

On October 6, 1930 she was united in marriage to Lisbon Carmichael in Red Cloud, Nebraska. They made their home and raised their family in Nebraska and in Arizona.

Doris enjoyed cooking, making great pies and homemade breads. She worked as a cook on several dude ranches and was the cook for a Girl Scout camp. She also owned her own cleaning business and her last job was operating a trading post in Tucson.

In 1972 she married Ed Allender and the two of them enjoyed traveling around the country in their R.V. Mr. Allender passed away in 2000.

Doris later moved to Sedro-Woolley to be near her daughter and this enabled her other children to see her more often, and she really enjoyed their visits. Doris came to know the Lord as her savior and she prayer for all of her family.

As her health declined, Doris made her home at the Life Care Center in Sedro-Woolley and her "family" there took very good care of her, and she loved them all.

Besides her husbands and her parents, Doris was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jessie Redd; 2 grandchildren, LeAnn Redd and L.J. Carmichael; 2 brothers, Alfred Adkins and Ellet Adkins, Jr. and 3 sisters, Pearl Grissom, Daisy Brown and Mildred Peabody.

She is survived by her children, Joe Carmichael, JoAnn Brown, Myra Martin, Jerry Carmichael and Larry Carmichael; 2 step-children, Rodney Kolar and Ginni Eskes, 24 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 23 3/4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

At her request there will be no local services. Inurnment will be in Arizona nest to her husband, Ed Allender.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
