PRESTON, Idaho -- Dr. Harris G. Allen, 76, passed away from complications of a stroke on Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, in Salt Lake City, surrounded by family and friends.

Harris was born on Feb. 16, 1928, in Smithfield, to his earthly parents, Grover Elijah Allen and Francetta Harris. Harris graduated from Utah State University with his B.A. in history. He received his master's degree from San Francisco State and later received his doctorate in education from Brigham Young University. Harris spent 42 years as an education administrator and teacher. He loved working with students and they loved and respected him. Harris moved to Northern California where he met his lovely wife, Carol Lee Stubbs, at a church function. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple in 1957 and have celebrated 47 wonderful years of marriage. He loves his Heavenly Father and believes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has served his church diligently through his entire life in several roles, including bishop, high council member, high priest group leader and teacher. In April of 2000, Harris fulfilled his lifelong dream and served a mission with his wife in Nauvoo, Ill. He was a member of the Rotary International.

Harris loved working in his yard and garden, perfecting every space and corner. He was happiest when in service, whether it be building and remodeling things or helping his kids, neighbors and friends with their projects. His greatest joy was being with his family and spending precious time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Lee Allen of Preston; son, Greg Harris Allen; wife, Lana Merie of Highland, Utah; daughter, Christine Lee Rawlings and husband Richard Kip of Preston; son, Mark Kelly Allen and wife Bridgette Kaye of Georgetown, Ky.; son, Kevin Joshua Allen and wife Carrie Susan of Silverthorne, Colo.; son, Jon Brent Allen and wife Jennifer Mae of San Diego, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters, Joseph and Mary Lou Allen of Pleasant View, Utah, Edris Mickelsen of Redmond, Utah, Leora Giles of Provo, Gilbert and Adria Allen of Lethbridge, Canada, James R. and Barbara Faye Allen of Providence, Nadine and Alton Buttars of Weston, Idaho, Ruth Robertson of Providence and Bruce Allen of Logan; and many, many friends.

Interment will be in the Richmond City Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenhallmortuary.com. Arrangements by Allen-Hall Mortuary, Logan.

A trust fund has been established in memory of Harris Grover Allen to assist and fund Franklin County Medical Center's Emergency unit with the necessities to administer the t-PA protocol for stroke victims. In light of the stroke that Harris suffered, the family requests that donations be made to The Harris Grover Allen Stroke Victims Fund at Ireland Bank, 85 E. Oneida, Preston, ID 83263. This fund will be used to establish necessary protocol to provide Thrombolytic Therapy. This cutting edge treatment therapy, involving the medication t-PA, when administered in the first three hours can restore blood flow to the brain and significantly increase the patient's chances of recovery, when indicated.
