Glenn Edward (Skeet) Allen, Thorntown, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Homewood Health Care Center, Lebanon. He was 95.
Born April 26, 1914, he was the son of Carter D. and Iva Etta (Smith) Allen; they preceded him in death.
He married Phyllis Eileen Gaddis Nov. 4, 1945, in Thorntown; she survives.
He graduated Thorntown High School in 1932, and attended embalmer college in Indianapolis. He was the first draftee from Boone County in World War II, serving in the European theater in the First Armored Division. He was injured on the Anzio beachhead in Italy and given the Purple Heart.
He co-owned Allen Regal Market for more than 30 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the Thorntown Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon and elder; the Thorntown American Legion No. 118; Thorntown Lions Club; Commander of the American Legion Masonic Lodge No. 113, Thorntown
Other survivors include daughters Karen Beth (husband Charles) Coffman of Ladoga and Deborah Jo (husband Jack) Floyd of Eubank, Ky.; grandchildren Allyson Gardner of Avon, Susan (husband Vincent) Harrington of Indianapolis, Jaclyn Floyd of Lafayette, and Julie (husband Jason) Swick of Crawfordsville; step-grandchildren Kay (husband Fred) Kindreman of Veedersburg, and Sharon Floyd of San Antonio, Texas; one great-granddaughter and four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
