ELNORA ALLEN
Elnora Jeane (Riggs) Allen was born May 9th, 1924 to Carrie Marie (Gardner) Riggs and Lloyd Herdman Riggs in Omaha, NE.
At age 12 her family moved back to Iowa where Elnora attended country school and helped on her parents farm.
In the spring of 1946 Elnora met Willard Allen, who just returned home from serving in the Marine Corps after his tour of duty in the Pacific during WW II.
On July 21, 1946 Willard and Elnora were married in Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union three children were born, James Edward, Willard Dean and Mary Lynne.
Elnora enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to cook, read, garden, crochet, sew, craft, and help Willard with his woodworking projects. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling with her husband.
After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's 5 years ago, Dad took care of her until Dec. 3, 2007 when she went to live at Osceola Nursing and Rehab. She passed away Dec. 29, 2007 with family by her side.
Elnora is survived by her husband of 61 years, Willard Allen. Children, Jim Allen and wife Velta of Lucas, Dean Allen and wife Diane of Van Wert, Mary Lynne Conway and husband Chris of Melrose.
One sister, Marie Beaty of Russell. Sisters-in-law, Kathryn Dixson of Lucas, Helen Allen of Lucas, Evelyn Riggs of Russell and Deloris Riggs of Council Bluffs, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one on the way. Many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Alvin Riggs, Jesse (Bud) Riggs. Brothers-in-law, Charles Dixson, Marney Allen, Gerald Allen, Mike Beaty, and Lavere (Pete) Peterson, and sister-in-law, Patricia (Pat) Peterson.
She will be greatly missed by family and many friends. We love you Mom, rest well.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa with Pastor Hearold McElwee officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
