Janie Halls Allen, daughter of James Jones Halls and Annie Tippett Halls, was born January 21, 1895 in Lucas, Iowa and died June 15, 1984 at Chariton, Iowa.
Janie grew up with her five brothers and one sister on Hillcrest Farm southeast of Lucas, attended the Rabbit Ridge country school and the Lucas Methodist Church where the entire family held membership.
Janie and Earl Lynn Allen were married May 29, 1918, establishing their home on a farm northwest of Lucas, where they provided a loving Christian home for the seven children born to them. Two daughters, Carolyn and Shirley, died as infants.
The surviving children are Marney Lynn and wife Margaret of Portland, Ore.; Kathryn Anne and husband Charles Dixson, Willard Edward and wife Elnora, and Gerald Wayne Allen, all of Lucas; and Patricia Jean Peterson of Hampton, Iowa.
Left with memories of a loving grandmother are 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Besides the immediate family, mourners include three sisters-in-law: Mabel Halls of Derby, Sara Halls of Corydon, and Mildred Allen Towne of Jamaica, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Janie's parents, husband, brothers, Thomas, William, James Edward and Albert Halls, and sister Ethel Foster, all preceded her in death, as did a son-in-law, LaVere Peterson, and a grandson, Joseph Walter Peterson, both of Hampton.
After the death of Earl Allen September 27, 1962, Janie remained at home in Lucas until becoming a resident of the Chariton Manor in 1982.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, 1984, at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton, conducted by Rev. Wauneita McConnell. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
