LOIS MARTHA ALLEN
The many friends of the family were greatly grieved and shocked to learn of the death of Miss Lois Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Allen, of Lucas, who departed this life in an Osceola sanitarium, July 5, 1922, at the age of 12 years, 2 months and 1 day, after a very short illness with a complication of diseases of the appendix.
The news of her death came as a severe shock to the entire community, as few knew that she was sick and when the sad intelligence came telling of her death there was heartfelt grief and sympathy for the sorrowing loved ones.
Lois was born in Lucas, Iowa, on May 4, 1910. She had been a faithful member of the Presbyterian Sabbath school of Lucas, having started in the cradle roll and through her attendance upon the work of the Sabbath school she had endeared herself to her teachers and fellow pupils and classmates.
Her ever sunny and cheerful disposition won for her friends wherever she went and her presence was always a joy and cheer to all about her. In the home she was a joy and ray of good cheer. She was her mother's willing helper, her father's pride and brother Keith's pal. Her genial disposition made her a radiant presence in the community and among her schoolmates.
She leaves to mourn her absence, besides the father and mother, one sister, Mrs. Edna Cherry, of Ankeny, Iowa; four brothers, Roy J., Claude M., Glenn W., and Keith Harold, all of Lucas. She is survived also by her two grandfathers and one grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Allen, of Woodburn, and Mr. John Stearns, of Chariton, also a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lois will be missed in the Sabbath school with her ever present smile and the sweet little voice that sang His praises will long remain as a loving memory. The tender thoughtfulness of the many friends and beautiful and profuse floral tributes were deeply appreciated by the family.
The very largely attended funeral service was conducted from the late home north of Lucas on Friday afternoon, July 7, at 2 o'clock, by the Rev. C. W. McClelland, of the First Presbyterian church of Chariton. The interment took place in the beautiful evergreen cemetery at Chariton.
