Husband of Edith Taylor. Son of Elam McCord "Mack" Allen and Clara Evans

Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, December 28, 1944

John Robert Allen, son of E. M. and Clara Allen, was born October 14, 1893, in Lucas county, Iowa, near Lucas, and died December 23, 1944, at the Burlington General Hospital in Burlington, Iowa, following an illness of but a few days, at the age of 51 years, 2 months and 9 days.

He grew to manhood in Lucas and Wayne counties and was married on April 14, 1914, to Edith Taylor. To this union eight children were born, two of whom preceded him in death, Frederick Emmett, on Nov. 26, 1916, at the age of one month and 11 days, and Betty Jean, who died July 18, 1934, at the age of 9 years and 4 months.

Mr. Allen spent all his lifetime in and near this vicinity except for the last three years which he lived in Burlington, where he was with the C. B. & Q. Railway Co.

Surviving him are four daughters and two sons, Mrs. Louise Anderson, with whom he made his home, Mrs. Georgetta Anderson, Beverly Lon and Roger Allen, all of Chariton; Juanita Allen, Officer 2nd Class, of the WAVES, stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Sgt. John Allen, Jr., of the U.S. Army, somewhere in England; one grandson, Donald Eugene Anderson; one brother, G. E. Allen, of Creston; one sister, Mrs. Edna Rash, of Janesville, Wisc.; and other relatives and a host of friends.

He was also preceded in death by his mother on Feb. 12, 1927, and his father on Aug. 21, 1925, and two brothers, Harry and Tom.

In early childhood he was taken into the Methodist church. He was a faithful father and a friend to all who knew him.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. T. Bloom, of the Christian church, were held at the Beardsley funeral home in Chariton at 2:30, Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 26, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.

Pall bearers were Tom Woodman, Loren Atha, Jim Lancaster, John McKinley, J. T. Mitchell and Wm. Terrill.
