Sarah Perlina Allen was born 1n Edgar Springs, Dent County, Missouri on 14 February 1866 to Hiram Plank and Nancy Lamb. As a girl, she went with her family by train to San Francisco in 1873 and then by steam ship to Empire City in Coos Bay, Oregon, then inland to the Coquille Valley near Wimer Creek where they lived for a little over two years. They spent another year and a half moving at their leisure through South central Oregon by wagon, eventually coming to the towns of Redding and Red Bluff in Northern California. They returned to Salem, Missouri by train in 1877, When Sarah was 20, she came back to California by train to the town of Redding preceding the move by her parents on their return to this location. She worked as a domestic servant and in 1889 was united in Marriage to George Washington Allen on 27 October in Redding. They had known one another since childhood. To their union, four children were born : Harmon Pearl, Ethel Mae, Edna Maud, and Jasper George Allen. As the children grew, the family moved about from place to place in Northern California and Southern Oregon where her husband worked farming, as a laborer, carpenter, mining, logging and as a teamster. The children were mostly home educated. The kids could always tell when the family was about to move because Sarah would be crying. After the passing of her husband in 1936 when they were living in Santa Clara, California, Sarah moved to Sacramento, CA near her sister Lavina and son Jasper. She later lived in Oakland and Pittsburg, CA with her daughter Ethel and son-in-law John Neasham. She remained active gardening and being a wonderful and caring Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Sarah broke her hip and became bedridden eventually passing in Pittsburg, CA 3 March 1957. She was laid to rest 6 March 1957 in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery in Concord, Contra Costa County, California.
