Mrs. Virginia Gantt Allen, 91, of Roseland, VA, passed away December 1, 2012. She was the widow of Ralph Allen, her husband of 47 years. Virginia was the second daughter of the late Henry Lewis and Evelyn Mahone Gantt of Roseland where she was born on July 13, 1921. She attended Fleetwood School in Nelson County and Pan American College, in Richmond. She spent most of her adult life in Kentucky where she raised her family. She was most proud of her Massie and Nelson heritage and was a member of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence as a 6th generation descendent of Governor Thomas Nelson, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Juliet Sisk and daughter-in-law, Paula Johnson Allen, both of Cocoa, FL; four grandchildren, Alan and Jackson Sisk of Nashville, TN, Jeffrey and Wesley Allen of Louisville, KY; and one brother, Donald C. Gantt of Farmville; eleven nephews and two nieces and their families.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James Allen of Crittenden, KY; one brother, H. Lewis Gantt, Jr. of Roseland, and her three sisters, Maria Keller, Juliet Wilson and Evelyn Swan Midgette.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire Wilson family for all their love and support shown to their loved one. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by Rev. Rachel Hoffman, assisted by John Campbell, with interment to follow in Jonesboro Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roseland Rescue Squad, POB 39, Roseland, VA 22967 or to the youth groups at Rose Union Baptist Church, Bethlehem United Methodist Church or Jonesboro Baptist Church.
