Mary Kathleen Allen, age 59, passed away January 22, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kathleen was born May 5, 1951 in Salt Lake City to Ralph H. Allen and Audrey Peterson. She graduated from Ogden School for the Deaf in 1969. She received her Bachelor Degree in Social Work from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Joined together with her life partner, Deborah Douglass in Anchorage, Alaska on July 2, 1995. Kathleen had a love for woodcarving, playing with her dogs, and she loved to relax reading the bible. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service; and most recently retired from the University of Alaska Anchorage as an American Sign Language Instructor. Kathleen loved teaching her students, and they loved her playful sense of humor. Kathleen is survived by her loving life partner, Deborah; 2 dogs, Chippo and Cheeo; brother, Kim Black; sisters, Cheryle (Patrick) Arnold and Michelle (John) Quas, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. A Celebration of Life for Kathleen will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, 5709 South 1500 West, Taylorsville. A Celebration of Life will also be held at a later date in Anchorage, Alaska.
