3 Tots Die With Mother In Home Fire
Alvarado, Texas. Jan. 21 (AP) - A 34-year-old mother and her three children burned to death on the fiery second floor of their home near the Alvarado city square, about twenty miles southeast of Fort Worth early Sunday.
Mrs. Barbara Allen and her three sons, William Gary, 7, Richard Martin, 2, and Donald Ray, 18 months, were all burned beyond recognition.
Mrs. Allen's husband, Wilburn Allen, 33, operator of an ice plant here, went downstairs to investigate after his wife smelled smoke. Flames blocked his path to the stairway and he was unable to return to his trapped family.
Allen suffered face and arm burns and shock. His condition was not considered serious at a Fort Worth hospital. Another occupant of the house, Pat Davis, 79, was in good condition at a Cleburne hospital where he was taken after suffering a heart attack. He was sleeping in a downstairs room and escaped injury from the flames.
The Rev. Homer Cox, pastor of the Alvarado Methodist Church, was hurt when he climbed a ladder to an upstairs window and was knocked to the ground by the flames after he broke a window with his fist.
Funeral services for the four victims will be held in Fort Worth Tuesday afternoon.
