C. Roscoe Allen, Jr. 85, passed away December 6, 2011, at Meadow Lakes Senior Community of Mooresville.
Roscoe was born January 11, 1926, in Indianapolis, the son of the late C. Roscoe Allen and Helen (Tolin) Allen McGuire. He married Rosemary Myers in 1950, and they were happily married for 60 wonderful years. He resided in Indianapolis until 1972 when he and Rosemary moved to Avon where they lived for 38 years.
Roscoe attended Pike Township School in Indianapolis. When he was 17 years old he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country during WWII. He proudly served as a radar man aboard both the U.S.S. Keokuk during WWII, and the U.S.S. Salerno Bay during the Korean War. Following his military service, Roscoe received his diploma from Arsenal Technical High School. He attended Butler University for three years. He then worked for Kidwell Electric Company and P.R. Mallory & Company before working as a technical writer for General Motors, retiring in 1987, after 26 years. After retiring, Roscoe enjoyed his hobby of "black & white" photography. He was also very active in the Indianapolis Jazz Club for many years. Roscoe especially loved photographing jazz musicians and jazz club attendees during their various events. Roscoe and Rosemary also enjoyed attending the annual U.S.S. Keokuk reunions with his fellow sailors and their families. He was also an avid gardener and loved feeding the birds and wildlife at his home.
Roscoe is preceded in death by his beloved wife Rosemary Allen; and his half-sister, June McGuire Rios.
Roscoe is survived by his children, Theodore Allen, Diane Havely (Louis); his grandchildren, Douglas Schneider, Timothy (Jennifer) Havely, Christopher Havely; and five great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:30 -3:00 pm on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, State Road 135 & Olive Branch Road. The family invites friends to a Celebration of Roscoe's Life immediately following the memorial service. His ashes will be interred at The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery.
