Elvira Desty McDowell was the daughter of John Herren McDowell and Mary A. Fisher. Her family were among Iowa's earliest pioneers, settling at Wapello county in 1843.

"Mrs. Elvira D. Allen Funeral Wednesday

ZEARING, Jan. 21 - Funeral services for Mrs. Elvira D. Allen, 73, who died early Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. E. A. Hein at Hubbard, will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Zearing Church of Christ. Mrs. Allen has been a resident of the Zearing community since 1882. The services will be conducted by the Rev. A. T. Trimble of Marion, a former pastor here. Burial will be in the Zearing cemetery.

Mrs. Allen was born in Wapello county in 1856 and moved to Zearing in 1882. Her husband died a number of years ago. She is survived by two daughters and two sons. They are: Mrs. Wilbur Alexander of Ames, L. C. Allen of Hampton, Will Allen of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Hein of Hubbard."
