ALLEN

Denzil Wayne Allen was born in Decatur County near Garden Grove, Iowa, March 27, 1927, the son of Vint and Eva Allen. He passed away at the Lucas County Health Center Sept. 12, 1997, at the age of 74 years, five months and 16 days.

Denzil was joined in marriage to Joyce E. Cain and they spent 54 happy years together. To this union were born four children: two sons, Clarence Wayne and David Paul, and two daughters, Bonnie Elizabeth and Patricia Elaine.

Denzil was saved in his young manhood and remained true to his Lord and Savior. He and his wife, Joyce faithfully attended the Grace Baptist Church.

Denzil and his family resided in Lucas County where he farmed and later joined the truck drivers at Hy-Vee. He served in this capacity for 30 years, retiring in 1986.

He leaves behind a family which will miss him greatly, his devoted wife Joyce; son Clarence and wife Charlotte of Abilene, Texas; daughter Bonnie Orwig and husband Dennis, or "George" as we know him, of Chariton; daughter Elaine Abbott and husband David of Thornton, Colo.; and son David of Chariton; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He is also survived by six sisters, Arlene Black, Othella Black, Georgia Crooks, Elaine Hall, Geneva Long and Winifred Martin; many nieces, nephews, three aunts, one uncle and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul and sister Vivian Kilts.

D. W. was known and loved by all he came in contact with. Honesty was one of the important traits of his character. He loved his Master and although he suffered much, he never complained. Denzil, we all miss you!

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at the Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis St. Lawrence officiating. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery. Al Rich, Marvin Lee, Jeff Hull, Wayne Swarthout, Ted Williams and Isaac St. Lawrence served as bearers.
