Wife of Elam McCord "Mack" Allen

Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 17, 1927

Clara Evans was born in the state of Indiana, Feb. 20, 1858, and passed away in Chariton, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1927, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 22 days.

When but a child she came with relatives to Lucas county, where she grew to womanhood and resided, for the most part, to the end of her earthly pilgrimage.

On March 22, 1880, she was united in marriage to Elam McCord Allen, of Lucas county and for 45 years they journeyed life's sea together, until a little more than a year ago, the beloved husband answered the final call and passed to the Beyond.

To them were born four sons and one daughter, Henry Noel, of Des Moines; George Emmet, of Creston; Mrs. Edna Rash, of Seymour; John Robert, of Chariton; and Thomas William, of Derby. Besides her children, she is survived by one half-sister, Mrs. Thomas Ashba, of Russell, Iowa, and seventeen grandchildren.

Mrs. Allen became a Christian in early life and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for the greater part of her life, her membership being with the Derby class at the time of her death.

She was characteristically quiet and unobtrusive in her nature, generous and hospitable and always ready to aid those about her who might need assistance. She was essentially a home-body, and, next to her Christian fidelity and loyalty to her Divine Master, she gave herself to her family in true motherly devotion, always carrying upon her heart the interest of her children and advancing their welfare to the best of her ability.

She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a good friend and neighbor, and the memory of that which was good and noble in her life will be cherished by her children and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Derby, Monday, February 14, 1927, at 2 p.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. Harold H. Hunt. Interment was made in the Derby cemetery.
