ANNIE ELIZA ALLEN
Annie Eliza Boyd, daughter of William J. and Ellen Chandler Boyd, was born July 15, 1867, near Greenfield, in Highland county, Ohio. She died March 5, 1949, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gookin, in Chariton, Iowa. She had attained the age of 81 years, seven months and 18 days.
The Boyd family moved to Russell, Iowa, in the year 1890, where on November 1, 1893, she was united in marriage to Henry S. Allen, who preceded her in death April 12, 1924. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Ruth A. Gookin, of Chariton; William Boyd Allen, of Burlingame, Calif.; and Tandy Van Nice Allen, of Little Rock, Ark., all of whom survive, together with four grandchildren, Margaret Ruth Allen, of Burlingame, Calif.; Phyllis Anne Kincannon, Tandy V. Allen II and Richard E. Allen, all of Little Rock, Ark.
Mrs. Allen, with her husband and family lived on a farm near Russell until 1915 at which time they moved to a farm northwest of Chariton where they resided until 1919 when they moved to Chariton, which place has since been her home. Mrs. Allen was the last of the William J. Boyd family. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Edith Murray, and brothers, William, Spillman, John, Aylette, Charles, Arthur, Herbert and Samuel, as well as a sister and brother who died in infancy.
She united with the Methodist church in early childhood and remained a faithful christian all her life, attending the services of the church regularly until failing health prevented. She was also a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Throughout her long illness, she was patient and deeply appreciated the kindness of her family and friends. On February 20 of this year she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage from which she never fully recovered and after two weeks of serious illness she passed to her eternal reward with all her immediate family at her bedside.
Funeral services under the direction of the Beardsley Funeral home were conducted from the First Methodist church Monday, March 7, at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. W. A. Samp officiating. Burial was made in the Russell cemetery.
Attending the final rites from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. John H. Allen, Mrs. Milo Thornton, Arthur Murray, Mrs. Leona Boyd, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Shody and daughter, Nancy, of Des Moines; Paul Boyd, of Ottumwa; Allan and Marshall Boyd, of Burlington; Mrs. Harry Kale and son, Wilson, of Truro; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Wortman, of Malvern.
