Donald L. "Don" Allen, our beloved father, grandpa, papa, and husband went to be with his heavenly father on October 6th, 2009 with his daughter Gina and granddaughter Kara by his side.
He was born in Camas, WA on January 7th, 1927 to Don and Lydia Allen. He grew up on the Allen Dairy and Hay farm. Donald and his father decided to start registered sheep and hay to use and sell. He really enjoyed every aspect of farming.
He graduated from Union High, Vancouver, WA in 1945, where he was active in F.F.A. and played his dad's coronet in the band. In Late 1945 he went to basic training for the U.S. Air Force at Kessler Field, Mississippi.
Following the service he moved to Walla Walla, WA where he met and married Freda Sexton in March of 1949. They had three children together. He worked in construction and for Mojonnier & Sons for 15 years. In 1969 the family relocated to the Tri-Cities where he managed The Flower Basket in Pasco.
In 1972 he married Jerie Deatherage and acquired 2 step-children. Don and Jerie were very active in the Model "A" Club and Ye Old Car Club. They also enjoyed traveling the world during their 30 years of marriage. He worked for Roto-Rooter for several years and retired from City of Kennewick waste water department.
After Jerie's death in 2002 he married Martha Shelton in 2003 and acquired 2 more step-children. Don and Martha enjoyed singing in the First Christian Church of Kennewick choir, their love of flowers, and listening to big band music.
He spent the finial months of his life at Kennewick Life Care Center. We, as a family, are so thankful for the loving care he received there.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Lydia Allen, his beloved aunties Astrid and Clara Pederson, and Jerie Allen.
Don is survived by his Children, Gina Allen, Steve Allen Ginger, Carol Hammer Buzz wife, Martha, step-children Don Shelton Nell, Ruth Lemke Dan, Kelley Deatherage Karen, Melody Deatherage, grandchildren, Christopher Lisa, Kara Ed, Kelli Justin, Nanci Ben, Neal, Stephanie, Matt, Heather, Kyle, and Jared, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, his beloved sister Ethel Runyan Bud and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gravesite service will be held at Desert Lawn Memorial Park 10th and Union Streets Kennewick on Saturday October 10 at 2:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 18th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Kennewick First Christian Church, 1921 South Olympia Street.
