died at the Confederate's home in Austin, Texas.
Funeral held at the home of his brother, J.A. Allen in east Graham. John Allen came to Rusk County, Texas in 1856. The Civil War broke out and he joined the Confederate Army enlisted in Company B, in O.M. Robert's regiment. John Allen served four years. After the war, John Allen returned home.
He had been a cow hand out in the frontier and being of a pioneer family, he craved the West.
In 1870, he married Mrs. Mary Catherine Smith and she preceded him in death in 1880. John Allen moved to Young County to live with his brother, Jesse A. Allen.
John Allen was a nephew of John Neely Bryan, pioneer who built the first log house on the East Fork of the Trinity river where Dallas, Texas is now located.
John Allen became a Baptist in the Civil War, later he and his wife joined the Christian Church.
Survived by one step-son - I. Tom Smith of Mineola, Texas.
