WEATHERFORD -- Donald Ray Allen, 68, of Weatherford passed away at his home Wednesday, March 25, 2015, after a battle with cancer. Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at North Side Baptist Church, 910 N. Main St., Weatherford. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley, 5600 Mineral Wells Highway, Weatherford. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at North Side Baptist Church. Memorials: Should friends desire, memorial gifts in Mr. Allen's memory can be made to the American Cancer Association, 3301 West Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76107, 800-227-2345; the Don Allen Health Science Building at Weatherford College; or a charity of choice. Mr. Allen was a well-respected leader of the community, always going above and beyond to help others, and often doing so with his unforgettable humor and humility. He served in various leadership capacities, including the Weatherford College board of trustees, was a founding member of the Weatherford ISD Education Foundations Board, winner of the James H. Doss Award for philanthropy from the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce. In June, Weatherford College dedicated its newest building to Mr. Allen, naming it the Don Allen Health Science Building. Don was preceded in death by his sister, Edith "Kid"; mother, Nettie; and father, Pete. Survivors: He leaves his beloved wife of 39 years, Glenda; his son, Delaney of Portland, Ore.; son, Colby and wife, Emily, of Fort Worth; brother, Lee Roy Allen and his wife, Earline, of Weatherford; and sisters, Carolyn Meyers of Louisiana and Sandra Mason and her husband, Pete, of Aledo.
