Doyle Allen Jr., 81, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, May 8, 2004, at the VA Hospital in Dallas.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at M.R. Smith Parlor for Funerals.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Northside Baptist Church with Elder Lee J. Keeton of Word of Life Church of God in Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Gooden, Keith Johnson, Marcell Allen, Fado Melvin Jr. and Jeramy Gooden. Honorary pallbearers will be Collie Coleman Sr., Fado Frank Melvin Sr., Sam Tally, Johnnie Walters and Charles Carroll.

Mr. Allen was born March 16, 1923, in Oakwood. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 and was honorably discharged. He was superintendent of Sunday school and deacon at Word of Life Church of God in Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Doyle Allen Sr.; mother, Lady Mae Allen; sisters, Huddie Gains and Annie Bell Sanders; brothers, L.B. Allen and Floyde Allen; and stepdaughter, Lizzie Faye Cooksey.

Survivors include his sons, Doyle Ray (Georgia) Allen of Fort Worth and Artis (Love) Allen of Alamogordo, N.M.; daughters, Arnetta Johnson of Corsicana, Mary Melvin of Duncanville, Alice (Donald) Jordan of San Antonio, and Darline (Zeb) Preston of Mesquite; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Henry Allen of Tulsa, Okla.; sister, Algie Ree Lathan of Fairfield; stepchildren, Shirley Ellison of Corsicana and Tommie Jean (Robert) Collins of Dallas; special cousin, Laura Wood; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
