James C. Allen of Miami died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Saint John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. He was 82.

Allen was born March 1, 1924, in Missouri to Joe Cody and Gladys (Hampton) Allen. He moved to Miami in 1967 from Commerce.

He retired from B.F. Goodrich after 37 years. He was a member of North Miami Assembly of God Church.

He married Earlene Hattery on Dec. 15, 1967, in Miami. She survives, of the home.

His first wife was Marie Belle Allen


Additional survivors include three sons, David Lee Allen of Rome, Ga., James Paul Allen of Vinita and Jesse Don Allen and his wife Kimber of Commerce; four stepchildren and their spouses, Jolene and Ron Heathman, Loretta and Jerry Cox, Debbie Thomas and Joe and Lynn Sharbutt; two brothers, Harold Allen of Commerce and Bill Allen of Texas; two sisters, Helen Clay of Texas and Lois Hinkle of Garden City, Kan., 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Ray Allen, and two daughters, Shirley Bartals and Linda Allen.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.

Pallbearers will be Tim Wilson, Aaron Wilson, Bobby Wilson, Jason Sharbutt, Josh Sharbutt, Jake Sharbutt and Joey Sharbutt. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lee Thomas, Corey Martin, Frank Park Jr., George Park, Shawn Park and Patrick Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.

He had a twin sister, Gladys Mildred Allen, that died prematurely.
