Daughter of L.D. and Lucinda Lewis Browning
Wife of Thomas Henry Allen
Our community was deeply shocked on last Saturday morning with the sad intelligence that Carrie M., the beloved wife of Thomas H. Allen had passed away. Scarcely was her ills known. She had been confined to her room but two days. Thirty-six hours before her pure spirit winged "It's flight to the courts of eternal light and glory," unconsciousness came upon and remained with her to the close of life's fitful dream.
Mrs. Allen was the daughter of L.D. Browning and wife of this city and was born September 16th, 1862 in Champaign county, Illinois. With her parents she removed to Holt County, Missouri in childhood. In November 1882, she was married to Thomas H. Allen, one of our most successful and highly esteemed young farmers. At the age of 16 years she was converted and became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and her gentle, amiable and pure life at all times testified of the peace and solar which she found in her faith in Him in whom her trust was most unfaltering. Possessed of a bright and cheerful nature touched by divine attributes of sympathy and love, she carried sunshine and gladness where oer who went and was happy in doing good unto others. In home life here was an example worthy alive of the admiration and emulation by all. Her relation of daughter, sister, wife and mother was a near approach to perfection, while socially none were more believed on account of the many graces, virtues that crowned her life. She left on this side the turbulent river a father, mother, several brothers and two precious children and from the other side she become them to the reward of immortal life. Interment at New Liberty on Sunday attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors.
