2nd wife of Joseph Cannon Cassity. Daughter of Milton Harvey Allen and Nancy Jane "Jennie" Vance

Russell, Iowa
Thursday, February 23, 1950

Ursel A., second daughter of Milton Harvey and Jennie Vance Allen was born near Russell in Cedar twsp. on January 26, 1875 and departed this life in Santa Cruz, Calif. on February 8, 1950, aged 75 years and 13 days.

She was united in marriage on April 25, 1917 to Joseph C. Cassity of Des Moines, Ia., who had a home in readiness for her. They continued living there until they moved to Russell on May 16, 1940. Mr. Cassity passed away on June 17, 1947 and the following summer Mrs. Cassity sold the home and held a closing out sale in June. Then in August she left for Santa Cruz, Calif. where she spent her remaining days near her only sister, Mrs. May Zimmermann, who is in declining health and keenly deplores her loss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two half-brothers and one half-sister. Those remaining to mourn the loss of a loving sister are Mrs. May Zimmermann of Santa Cruz, Calif. and brothers W. J. Allen of San Diego, Calif. and John H. Allen of Des Moines, Iowa. Also many nieces and nephews and other relatives, among whom is a dearly beloved step-daughter-in-law, Mrs. Leonard Cassity and three sons of Forsythe, Ill. and vicinity.

Ursel, as she was familiarly known by her multitude of friends, was always cheerful, kind and helpful to all. Always in her place in church and social acitivities.

Her early life was spent on the pioneer farm of her father, attending the country school and Sunday school and church at LaGrange. Early in life she united with the Presbyterian church and has held membership wherever she lived, in Russell, Des Moines or California. She always had a church home and was faithful in attendance and labors in the Lord's work.

She was taken suddenly ill with flu on February 5, and after suffering three heart attacks, passed from this life to a better world, in a Santa Cruz hospital on Wednesday, February 8. Funeral services were held on Friday, followed by cremation, with ashes to be sent to Russell later for interment.
