James R. "Jim" Allee, age 76, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 6:50 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2013, at his residence.
The funeral service in his honor will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938, with Reverend Dennis Strawn officiating. Interment will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home.
Born in Benton, IL, on March 20, 1937, Jim was the son of James B. and Helen L. (Williams) Allee. He married Patty L. Winfield on May 8, 1960, in Mattoon, IL. She survives. Other survivors include four children: Jeff Allee and wife Kelly of Mattoon, IL; Angie Collings and husband Tony of Springfield, IL; Aimee Chambers and husband Keith of Somerset, KY; and Tim Allee and wife Rhonda of Mattoon, IL; one brother, John Allee of Visalia, CA; six grandchildren: Andrew Collings, Laura Collings, Joey Allee, Addi Allee, Alaina Allee, and Sydney Allee; and one step-grandson, Lucas Grzelak. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tim Allee.
After graduating from Western Military Academy in Alton, IL, Jim attended Centre College in Danville, KY. He then served in the United States Army Reserves.
Jim took over Allee Lumber Company in Mattoon, IL, in 1967 as the third generation owner. He was a twenty year member of the Mattoon Police and Fire Board; a member of the Lake Land College Foundation Board of Directors, serving first as vice-president and then as president; a member and former board member of the Mattoon Association of Commerce; a recipient of the Lake Land College Distinguished Service Award, a member of the EIU Panther Club; and a sponsor of Little League football and baseball in Mattoon, and YMCA Soccer in Springfield
