Doris May Allamong, 96, died on June 23, 2020, at the Pine Knoll Nursing Center in Lexington, MA. Born in Harrisburg in 1924, the daughter of Charles and Mary Long, she graduated from John Harris High School in 1942 and attended the Harrisburg Business School. She was an early employee of Harrisburg Area Community College and worked there for 23 years, retiring as business office manager in 1988. Dedicated to the college's mission and devoted to its students, she took great pride in the achievements of both. A lover of the outdoors, she was a member of the Kabob Hiking Club for many years and enjoyed hiking all over the mid-Atlantic with an intrepid group of friends. She also loved to travel and especially enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and the American West. In retirement, she was active in Meals on Wheels and in the community activities of her church, Derry Street United Methodist Church. After she moved to Ecumenical Community in Harrisburg, she enjoyed opportunities to help others through craft projects. In January 2019, she moved to Pine Knoll Nursing Center in Lexington, MA, to be near her family. She was a selfless, loving, and enormously supportive mother to her daughter, Kathryn Allamong Jacob, and a wonderful grandmother to the granddaughters she adored, Charlotte and Annie, who fondly recall that she was always game for anything from riding Space Mountain to trying sushi. The arrival of three great-grandchildren brought her great joy. She is lovingly remembered and survived by her daughter Kathryn and son-in-law, Robert Jacob, of Boston, MA; her granddaughter Charlotte and her husband Daniel Fixler and their sons Eli and Max of Sudbury, MA, and granddaughter Annie and her husband William Malan and their daughter Ella of Jamaica Plain, MA; her niece Helen Gallagher and her husband Charles Gallagher of Enola, PA and their three children, Michael, Michelle, and Erin, and their families; and her niece by marriage and companion on many adventures, Roberta Long of Williamstown, NJ. When gatherings are again possible, a celebration of Doris's life will be scheduled at Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 357 South Harrisburg St. Oberlin. In lieu of flowers, memorials and remembrances can be made to: American Heart Association, PO Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241-7005; www.heart.org.or the American Cancer Association.
