GLENS FALLS Isaac Alfred Alkes, 91, of Glens Falls, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on Jan. 8, 1917, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Isadore and Rebecca (Hanler) Alkes.

Isaac was a member of Congregation Shaaray Tefila. He owned both Adirondack Waste Company and Adirondack Merchandising Company in Glens Falls for many years.

His hobbies included bowling and woodworking. He enjoyed being a snowbird, traveling to Florida each winter. Isaac also enjoyed doing arts and crafts, gardening, and football in his younger years.

He was a former Mason, a past Elk and a member of the Glens Falls Senior Citizens.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife,

Roslyn, his sister, Anne Lucks and his brother, Ben Alkes.

Survivors include his children: Eugene Alkes of Delray Beach, Florida, Arnold Alkes of Glens Falls, Brenda Raymond of Glens Falls and Rhoda Butler of Glens Falls; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The light of his life was his granddaughter, Kimberly Butler of North Miami Beach, Fla. He loved the time he lived with her, and most recently enjoyed her

frequent trips to Glens Falls to share quality time with her "Pa."

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Shaaray Tefila Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Shiva services will be held for two days, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 p.m. at Congregation Shaaray Tefila, 68 Bay St., Glens Falls.

Many thanks to Will Dearborne for the special care he gave "Al." Al enjoyed and was very fond of this warm young man who made his stay at the Stanton Nursing Home peaceful and comfortable.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan-Minahan & Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury.
