Tragedy struck the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Alires in Central at 11 a.m. Wednesday when their nine-months-old son, David, was burned to death in his crib. Six other small children managed to get out of the house and were unharmed. The mother had left home to go to the Post Office. Neighbors discovered the fire and called the Fire Department, but were unable to save the baby, as flames had enveloped the crib. The child suffered fatal burns. Firemen saved the house from destruction. An inquest was held and a coroner s jury returned a verdict of accidental death caused by burns and suffocation. Investigation failed to determine cause of the fire. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Cox Mortuary.
