Mary Louise Aliff Akers, 84, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Oakey P. and Mary L. Aliff. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Akers Jr. Mary Lou was devoted to her family and nothing pleased her more than family gatherings. She will be remembered by everyone who knew her for making the best pound cakes. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she served faithfully. Most recently she was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Donnie Akers and wife, Ann; daughter, Susan Akers Guilliams and husband, Wayne; granddaughter, Lauren Akers Boothe and husband, Brad; grandson, Scott Akers and wife, Amanda; granddaughter, Rebecca Guilliams; four great-grandchildren, Tristin, Sara and Emily Akers and Abby Boothe; and special "daughter," Christe Akers.
The family wishes to thank Dr. William Fintel and his staff for the love and care of their mother over the past 11 years. She thought of them as dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Roy Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Vinton.
