Daughter of Albert and Harriet (Lawrence) Alger. Wife of Elihu Finney. Married in Sharon, Vermont on January 1, 1851.

"Mrs. Philena A. Finney
Mrs. Philena Alger Finney, widow of the late Deacon Elihu Finney, passed away at the home of her son, Augustus Finney, in Sharon March 29, 1915, at the advanced age of eighty three years and two months. For many years she and her husband lived in the town of Norwich, where four children came to gladden their home, a son dying in childhood and a daughter in young womanhood. While living there they were members of the F. B. church in South Strafford, he being deacon for several years. Ever faithful in attendance, through summer's heat and winter's cold, they were always present at their beloved church when possible. Several years ago they moved to Manchester, N.H., where they made their home until he passed away twelve years ago. Since then she has spent a part of the time with the son in Sharon.
Quiet and unassuming in her ways, yet she always exerted an influence for good and faithfully performed each duty as it came to her. Always industrious, her strength held out so she was able to assist in household duties until a few months before her death, when she gradually and peacefully sank to rest to join the loved ones that had preceded her to the better land. Two sons, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother and many friends are left to mourn her loss.
The funeral was held at the home of her son. Rev. L. L. Chase from the F. B. church of South Strafford, spoke comforting words to the mourning friends from second Timothy, 4 chapter, 6 verse, and a quartet from the same church sang the hymns, "Asleep in Jesus" and "No More Good-byes." Those present from out of town were the son, Asa Finney, and wife of Manchester, N.H., Mr. and Mrs. Prosper Alger of South Strafford, William Alger and Mrs. Tucker of West Hartford. After the service the remains were carried to South Strafford and buried in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery." (Source: 1915 Herald clipping of Harriet Philena (Alger) Finney)
