ROCKDALE — Services for Jean LaRue Alford, 83, of Rockdale will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with the Rev. Jack Chelf officiating.

Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mrs. Alford died Saturday, Nov. 28, in a Rockdale nursing home.

She was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Waterloo to Jim and Ruth Sides Talley. She was a rancher and homemaker. She married Roy J. Alford Sr. and he preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1987. She was a lifetime resident of Rockdale. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale, and was active with Vacation Bible School at the church for many years. She was a 1944 graduate of Rockdale High School, served on the board of directors for Southwest Milam Water Supply for a number of years and was one of the founding members of the Rockdale Historical Society, serving as the first president.

Survivors include three sons, Roy J. Alford Jr., Barkley Alford and James "Jim" Alford, all of Rockdale; a brother, J.T. Talley of Rockdale; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today and 8 a.m. Thursday until service time at the funeral home.
