DEATH OF MRS. LOUISA ABBOTT An Invalid for Years, Mrs. Abbott Passes Away at Age of 72
Coneross, June 12 - Special: Our entire community was saddened on Sunday afternoon when news came of the death of Mrs. W. Abbott, which sad event took place at her home in West Union of Sunday about 5 p.m. Although the announcement was the occasion of great sorrow here, it was not a surprise, as Mrs. Abbott's death had been expected for several months. She had been suffering from a complication of diseases for about four months, and been seriously ill for some eight years. About eight years ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis and had never been well since that time. During her long illness she never wanted for anything that could be done for her by her children, who have been exceptionally patient and kind to her; but all of this loving kindness could not keep her with us. Mrs. Abbott before marriage was Miss Louisa Alexander. She was born and raised here at Coneross, and lived in this community until about six years ago, when the family moved to West Union. In her youth she gave her heart to Christ and joined the Baptist Church at Coneross, and lived a Christian life to the end of her days. She was a loving mother, unusually devoted to her children and kind to everybody, and there is a wide circle of friends to mourn her death besides her children and other relatives. Besides her husband she leaves eleven children and thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one sister and two brothers, to grieve at her taking away. The children are: J. S. Abbott, Coneross; J. W. Abbott, Gaffney; Simon, Plumer, Roy and Burt Abbott, Seneca; Rev. H. T. Abbott, of Ohio and Jay M. Abbott, of Easley; Misses Annie and Mertie Abbott and Mrs. Ed Cox, of West Union Mr. and Mrs. Abbott were blessed with twelve children, all of whom are living except one daughter, Miss Lillie, who died about 19 years ago. Mrs. Abbott's brothers and sisters living are W. O. and T. D. Alexander and Mrs. S. M. Hunsinger, of Coneross. Funeral services were held today at 10 o'clock at the church at Coneross and the remains were interred in the cemetery of that church by the side of her daughter. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends were present to pay the last sad tribute to the memory of this most excellent woman, who will be greatly missed wherever she was known. She was 72 years of age. The many relatives and friends here of the bereaved family extend to them the deepest sympathy in their hour of sorrow. It can be truly said that a good woman has passed on to her reward, which is sure, for her life was that of an humble and devout follower of the lowly Nazarene. She professed Christ and accepted him as her Saviour, and her daily life was a close walk by the side of him whom she believed.
