Mortuary - Mrs. James Alexander
Mrs. James Alexander passed away at her home, 407 East Third street, at 7:30 o'clock Thursday morning, death resulting from heart trouble. She had been failing in health for the past year and a half but not until a week ago did her condition become serious, since which time she had been bedfast.
She was born in Scotland on December 22, 1856, and was aged 66 years. For the past 37 years she had resided in this city and was very well known, particularly by the older residents, and was held in high esteem. Poignant grief, resulting from a tragic incident occurring about two years ago when her only two daughters, Mrs. Roy N. Hamilton and Mrs. Henry C. Gillispie, together with the latter's small son, met their death by accidental drowning in the Platte river, was a contributing element which caused her death. Although she born her sufferings in comparative silence and with a fortitude which was amazing to the relatives and to her close friends, the distressing event, nevertheless made its imprint deep in the mother heart from which she failed fully ever to recover.
Besides her bereaved husband, she is survived by three sons, David and John of this city, and James of St. Paul, Minn., as also a grandson, Joseph Hamilton of this city. Her two daughters and a son, Joseph, who passed away over twenty years ago, have preceded her in death. . .
