WASHINGTON, IL - Robert D. Alexander Sr., 91, formerly of Washington, passed away at 5:17 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
Robert was born on Sept. 20, 1920, in Marrowbone, Ky., to Edgar and Annie Carden Alexander. He married Juanita Grissom in Glasgow, Ky., on Jan. 26, 1946. Juanita passed away on Aug. 19, 2001, in Peoria.
Among those surviving are three sons, Robert (Cheryl) Alexander of Alpharetta, Ga., Dan (Donna) Alexander of Smithfield and Tim (Jon'l) Alexander of Mossville; and four grandchildren, Jenifer, Ryan, Johnathan and Joseph.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, David, Phillip, Beck and Joseph.
Robert was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps in the India/Burma theater.
He was a member of Danforth Walker VFW Post 9016 in Washington.
He had lived at Fondulac Woods Rehabilitation Center in East Peoria since 1990, and the family appreciates the care given to Robert.
He also was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and burial of ashes will be in Glendale Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Tazewell Military Rites Team and U.S. Air Force.
