Randal Alexander and his wife Janet immigrated from Ireland in 1718. They were part of a large number that sailed to Boston on three ships. The immigrants were all Scotch Irish Presbyterians and entire congregations came. They had arranged a land grant to settle in the wilderness territory of New Hampshire. They arrived too late in the year to start their settlement and had to stay aboard their ships for the winter. They were not allowed to stay in Boston Harbor so they went to Maine where they spent the winter aboard the ships, hunting and cooking on shore. In March 1719 a number of the settlers reached their land grant and founded Nutfield, NH, which became Londonderry and Derry, NH. You can find Randal Alexander as one of the founders. A google search about the history of Nutfield/Londonderry/Derry will yield some information. Others from that voyage, including Randal's brother, settled in Belfast, ME near where the ships had been anchored for the winter.
