|Birth: ||Dec. 14, 1790|
|Death: ||Jul. 21, 1881|
Note: The DOB varies with sources.
> December 14, 1789 is used from Jefferson county genealogy sources, based in part from the obituary information that she was aged 91 years 6 months old when she died.
> Per information supplied from Eugene F. Gray on July 9, 2014, there is a Robert Alexander family bible in which Ann (a/k/a Anne)'s DOB is entered as December 14, 1790. Will use that date for this memorial in deference to the family bible, but it should be noted that doing so conflicts somewhat with the age at death per the obituary. Due to rounding, the exact DOB may not be proven either way.
"Fairfield Ledger", July 27, 1881, Pg. 3, Col. 5
ALMOST A CENTENARIAN. On Thursday last, in this city, occurred the death of an aged woman, one whose years had almost equalled those of a century -- Mrs. Ann ALEXANDER, ninety-one years, six months old. Her maiden name was Ann ALEXANDER, and she was born at McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, where she was married to Hugh ALEXANDER, and resided there until her husband's death, nearly fifty-six years ago. Deceased had been a resident of Fairfield about thirty-three years, coming here with her family in the pioneer days.
She was the mother of six children: W.K., R.W., A.C. Susan J., Martha M., and Sarah J., the latter being Mrs. POINSETT. All these children, with the exception of the last named, who died a few months ago, are living here today, the youngest, Clark, being fifty-six years of age, and their ages aggregate nearly three hundred years, greater perhaps than those of any family in the county.....
[Elsewhere in the "Ledger" on this same date:
Death of Mrs. Ann (ALEXANDER) ALEXANDER.... (From the 1880 census, her father was born in Ireland.)]
Note: Need to locate burial site of the husband, Hugh Alexander. According to the obituary above he died about 1825, presumably before/during/or slightly after the birth of their son Andrew Clark/Clarke Alexander in Bedford County, PA. Perhaps Hugh was buried in Bedford County?
Quoting from Eugene F. Gray's SAC: "As to Hugh's burial site, I assume that it is in Big Spring Cemetery; of course most stones there are worn. I visited it in 1982. In a deed executed on Aug. 26, 1803, a group of local residents bought one acre of land for a burying ground. Hugh's name is on the list."
All of the children noted above are accounted for except for Susan Jane Anderson. She is listed on a family group sheet as born January 30, 1818 in Bedford County, Pa. and died on Nov. 22, 1898, with the implication she was buried in Fairfield. If so, her burial location is not known specifically as she is not listed for either Old Fairfield Cemetery nor Evergreen Cemetery. Any clarification would be appreciated.
Update: Thanks to Mary Helen Bouchard for the link suggestion to Ann's father Robert Alexander. Perhaps other family information will become available with further research! //rkt July 30, 2011.
