Emory Clyde Alexander was born Sept. 19, 1892, in the Arlie community. His father was W. M. Alexander, his mother, Flora Cooper Alexander. He married Tillie Branum Sept. 24, 1924, in Childress. He passed away on Nov. 7, 1985 at age 93.

He attended schools in Childress and Hollis, OK, and played on the first football team for Hollis High School.

He was with the First National Bank in Hollis as bookkeeper when he enlisted in the military service. He served 11 months in France with the 36th Division (Army), Medical Department Field Hospital No. 143. He was honored with the Victory Medal for service in the Muese-Argonne fighting. He returned to Hollis as bookkeeper at the same bank, later going to Walters, Okla., where he was bookkeeper.

In 1924, Mr. Alexander and his brother-in-law, Dr. J.B. Hollis, Sr., of Mangum, Ok., bought the cattle belonging to Mr. Alexander's father, W.M. Alexander, and leased his land. They operated as partners for several years, then Mr. Alexander operated the ranch on his own until he had to retire in 1980.

He was a life member of Glynn Moore Post No. 6449, Veterans of Foreign Wars and also a member of the American Legion, Post No. 335 of Dodson. He had been a member of the Church of Christ since 1925.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Clyde (Tillie) Alexander and two sons, Ruel Alexander of Amarillo and Dr. Fred Alexander of Searcy, Ark.; a sister, Mrs. J.B. (Abbie) Hollis of Mangum, Okla., 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean in 1954 and by 2 brothers, Wade Alexander and L. W. Alexander; and 6 sisters: Nola Hunt, Mamie King, Winnie Holler, Zora Dial, Velma Smith and Mary Sexton.
