Fern Alexander, 95, of Fairmount, passed away at 11:11 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

She was born June 13, 1912, south of Sidell to Freddie and Myrtie Turner Brooks McNees. She married William D. Alexander in Indiana March 2, 1931. He passed away Sept. 2, 1978. Survivors include: three sons: Clifford (Genie) Alexander of Converse, Texas, Freddie (Karen) Alexander of Fairmount and James (Shirley) Alexander of Danville; one daughter: Betty (Jim) Salladay of Fairmount; one daughter-in-law: Pat Alexander of Fairmount; and two sisters: Lorena (Rev. Charles) Pearman of Indianola and Bonnie Carter of Fairmount. She was preceded by an infant daughter and one son, Bill Alexander. Survivors also include 16 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Fern's family and children were her greatest pride and concern. She enjoyed flowers, active in the Fairmount Ball Association, helped with the Fairmount Boy Scouts, member of the former Fairmount Presbyterian Church, later New Hope Community Church. She attended Sidell Grade School, Galloway School and Barnet School. She had been a homemaker and a loving and caring person.
