William C. Alexander, 86, of Springfield, died at 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at St. John's Hospice. William was born on August 17, 1920 in Toluca, IL, the son of Alex and Nancy Contasti Alexander. He married Oneita Padgett in 1962; she preceded him in death in 1969.

He graduated from Lanphier High School. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran serving on D Day at Normandy Beach. He was also decorated with the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver Battle Star, three Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Eagles Aerie 437.

William retired from the State of Illinois Dept. of Agriculture where he had been employed as a meat and poultry inspector for twenty-seven years.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Nicholas, Michael and James Alexander and three sisters: Mary Cervellone, Lillian Boelling and Tessie Owdom.

He is survived by one son, William C. "Buddy" Alexander II of Springfield; one step-son, Robert A, (wife, Cheryl) Parkinson of Springfield; one sister, Anne M. Alexander of Springfield and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Reverend Philip Kraft celebrant.

Burial in Calvary Cemetery with Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail military honors.
