June 3, 1914 issue of "The LaFayette Sun":

Community Saddened by Two Deaths.

The news was borne to loved ones here from Asheville, N.C., last Sunday night that the spirit of William W. Alexander had left the mortal agony of suffering for restful immorality.
Though the illness of this bright young man was of many month's duration yet there was always hope that his young life might be spared to his loved ones for years. A dreadful malady laid hold of his body and made its victim, a noble and promising young life. William W. Alexander was born in Mobile Nov. 11th, 1889 and joined the Baptist Church when only ten years of age. Will was a bright, manly boy, and had many friends who loved him because of his many qualities of mind and heart. His life though a a short one had been lived to spread sunshine and he will be sadly missed.
The body was brought to LaFayette yesterday, arriving on the morning train and was carried to the home of Mr. John M. Tucker, and there beside his grandmother, who had just died, lay in state till the afternoon when it was carried to the Methodist Church from which it was borne, after appropriate services conducted by Revs. F. L. Aldridge and H. R. Arnold, to the cemetery, where it was laid to rest beneath the sod to await the time of the great awakening on the last day when Christ shall come to make up his jewels. Peculiarly sad is this death, for coming as it did and followed so quickly by that of his aged grandmother and the two being so gently laid away in the City of the Dead, the effect on the entire community has been one of sadness and sorrow. The deceased was a student at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute at Auburn and graduated in the class of 1911 and while there joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was a civil engineer and followed his calling but a few years when his life was taken just as he was beginning to live. He leaves his father, mother and two sisters. The Sun joins the many friends of the family in expressions of sympathy for all in this dark hour and prays that the peace of trust and faith may rest upon each of them.
