ALEXANDER, COLLEEN J. July 9, 1929 to October 29, 2008
On October 29, 2008, this beautiful person passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving husband and niece Cheryl Roldan. Colleen was born on July 9, 1929, in Bloomington, Indiana, the daughter of Homer and Mary Allen. She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1947, Christian College (now Columbia College) in 1949 and received her BA from Indiana University in 1951. Colleen was very active in the theatre at IU and summer stock. She married Keith Alexander, September 9, 1951, and recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Colleen was the ultimate people person. She loved all children and had a unique way of connecting with people she met regardless of age. She loved to travel especially to fly around the U.S. and Mexico in their private airplane. Colleen worked as an engineering librarian at General Dynamics for 30 years before retiring in San Diego and Palm Desert. She was always a sports fan and enjoyed Indiana basketball, the Chargers and especially the Padres. She was a Padres season ticket holder since 1973 and was well known as "that little lady with the scorebook." Her biggest baseball thrill was being invited by the Padres to Cooperstown for Tony Gwynn's induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. She devoted much of her life to helping others and was very active with the PI BETA PHI sorority for over 50 years. She was a member of the San Diego and Palm Springs/ Desert Cities Alumnae clubs and attended several national conventions. Colleen had a close connection with young college women and it gave her great pleasure to be a part of their lives. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering Friday, November 14, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Turner. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to First Book, c/o Cindy Mead, 9151 Wister Dr., La Mesa, 91941, www.firstbook.org or the charity of your choice.
