Arnold J.S. Alexander Feb. 1, 1922 - April 14, 2010 Resident of Walnut Creek A native of California aged 88, Alex was born on February 1, 1922 in Big Creek, a staging area in the high Sierra's for a very large hydroelectric development to provide electric power to southern California. As the project was completed, his family was transferred to Visalia, CA in 1929 where A.J. attended grammar school and high school. After a short introduction at College of the Sequoias, Alex moved on to U.C. Berkeley. A.J. enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942. As a second Lieutenant, he was assigned to a Marine unit in the South Pacific. After the war was over, Alex was discharged as a Captain from the Marine Corps. He then finished one remaining semester of college, and then began what was to be a 35 year career with the Standard Oil Co. of California (SOCAL), now Chevron. After a series of physical transfers with positions of increased responsibility on the West Coast, Alex was appointed to the position of General Credit Manager for SOCAL in 1968, with worldwide responsibilities for credit management for the company. During his business career, Alexander was active in and an officer of several trade associations nationwide and earned an Executive award in Credit & Financial Management from Stanford University. After almost 35 years with SOCAL, A.J. elected to take early retirement in 1982 to travel and be with his family. Alexander was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jeanne in 2008. He leaves behind a Son and Daughter and 3 Grandchildren. Services and interment will be private.
