"Died of pneumonia in Newtonia on Monday, February 16th, 1891, G. C. Alexander, aged 54 years, 8 months, and 5 days. The deceased was born in Bentonville, Tennessee, on June 11th, 1836.
He was married to Madaline Delk August 13th, 1851. He professed religion when about seventeen years of age, and has ever been known as a quiet, upright, Christian man. He served a term as justice of the peace, and in 1890, he served as census taker from this township. He has lived in this county twelve or thirteen years.
He leaves a heart broken wife and seven sorrowing children to mourn his loss. The children are all about grown, two of whom are married. James Alexander of Neosho is his only living brother.
His funeral was preached by Rev. T. L. Largen to a large congregation from the Baptist church. A large concourse of people followed his remains to their last resting place in the Newtonia cemetery. He was willing and ready to die and passed away, peacefully and quietly. He was highly esteemed by all who knew him. The bereaved relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community."
