Norma Reeves Alexander died April 21, 2010, at Aston Court Assisted Living and Retirement Center in McComb. She previously lived in the Carter's Creek community in eastern Pike County. Graveside services were held at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb with the Rev. Robert Gray and the Rev. Cliff Forrester officiating. Catchings Funeral Home of McComb was in charge of arrangements.
Norma Ailean Reeves was born Dec. 21, 1910, in Pike County on land which today is Pricedale. She was the daughter of Henry Emanuel and V.L.A. McKelvin Reeves.
Mrs. Alexander was a 1928 graduate of Southwest Mississippi Agricultural High School in Summit. She married Kermit Alexander in 1932 and moved to New Orleans, where she lived for 46 years. She was a homemaker, worked as a nurse's aide in Baptist Hospital in New Orleans and was active in Valence Street Baptist Church. After retiring, she and her husband returned to Pike County, where she was living at the time of her death. She was a member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church at Carter's Creek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 47 years, Kermit Kenzie Alexander and her second husband of eight years, Thurmon L. Alexander; her brothers, George Calvin Reeves Sr., Henry McKelvin Reeves, Gus Walker Reeves, Rufus Brazie "Breezy" Reeves, David Sheldon Reeves, Charles Alton Reeves Sr., and T.C. Reeves; her sisters, Estelle Reeves Greer, Mary Reeves Brewer and Toy Reeves Greer; one grandchild, Norma Jean McCord; a son-in-law, Dr. Clarence Wilton McCord; and one step-daughter, Mary Alexander Thigpen.
She is survived by daughters, Jean Alexander McCord of the Carter's Creek community and Kay Alexander Gray and her husband Robert B. of Clinton, Tenn.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Howard Alexander and his wife Gertie; sisters-in-law Shirley Alexander of Pierre Part, La., and Christine Alexander of Jayess; and numerous nieces and nephews. We have fond memories of her and her life. She loved her family, friends and her Lord.
