Son of James Wilson and Daisy Rogers Alexander. Married to Edith Oehler Alexander for 62 years. Five children: David Eugene Alexander, Joe Alexander, Mary Alexander Sloop, Daisy Alexander Beam and Jeanette Alexander Stikeleather. 14 grandchildren. 9 great grandchildren with a 10th on the way. "Gene" was affectionately called "PawGene" by his grandchildren as well as many that knew him and his family. He was a hard-working cattle farmer and was owner and operator of Alexander Lumber Company and Farm. He was a member and supporter of Mooresville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church since 1951.
He served as teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class and Deacon and Elder. In 2000, he was honored as Elder Emeritus by the Session of the Mooresville ARP Church for his faithful service.
