Obituary (unknown (MO) newspaper, June, 1914)- Hannah Lackey Alexander was born near Madison, August 28th, 1855, passed from this life June 6th, 1914. In 1877 she joined Hickory Grove Baptist church of which she was a member at the time of her death. On March 28th, 1878 she was united in marriage to Richard Stephens. To this union three children were born, Claud T., Orph T., and Willie Myrtle, the latter died in infancy the other two remain. Sister Stephens was one of those characters that if you met you ever longed for the time to come that you might again have the same privilege. She had a smile and a pleasant word for all who came in her path. She went about doing good. She has gone from us never to return, but still in our minds will remain the good that we received from her life, and will be an inspiration to make us better. It is true "In the midst of life we are in the midst of death," and well it is this way for by it we are taught to be watchful. She was ready because her life was lived for Him who died for her. She will be missed from her home, church and community where she took her place in her way. Our loss is her gain so we must be content to wait our time. So father and sons you have many things to be thankful for, she was ready. You in life gave your flowers that she might enjoy them and now that she has gone may her life be an incentive to higher things. She leaves two sons, husband, two grand-children, two sisters, four brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. A service was conducted at the home by Revs. Green, (her pastor, and R A Jones, a former pastor) after which the body was conveyed to the Alexander cemetery to await the coming Day.
