Mrs. M. O. Aleshire, 57 years old, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday at her home in the west part of town. Mrs. Aleshire had been ill from cancer a year or more, and had been very poorly since undergoing an operation for cancer of breast last August.
Deceased's maiden name was Amanda Cross. She was born May 2, 1878 at Bowles, Tennessee near the city of Nashville. She came to Liberal when a young woman, and was married here, August 8, 1900 to Marcus O. Aleshire. This has been her home most of the time since then.
She is survived by her husband and four children. The children are; Mrs. C. H. Sloan, Scott City, Kansas, William Arlie Aleshire, Junction City, Kansas, Franklin Aleshire and Miss Evelyn Aleshire, at home. One son, Raymond, died at the age of 15 some years ago. Their oldest child died at birth.
Mrs. Aleshire was a quiet, unassuming woman, devoted to her family and friends, and well liked by all who knew her. She made a heroic fight for her life, but the dread scourge was more than she could stand.
The children from away arrived home Wednesday before their mother's death on Friday, being called here when it was seen the end was near.
Funeral services were held at the home, at 2 p.m Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. L. F. Gilbreath, pastor of the M. E. Church.
Pall bearers were Jas. M. Mohler, Joe Gill, W. S. Weaver, E. E. Cooper, Chas. Beckmann, Jr. and Dan Spriggs. Burial was at Barton City Cemetery under the direction of the Berkey Funeral Service.
