A native of Westfield, Massachusetts, Mr. Aldrich was the son of the late Raymond Clifford and Eva May Laramie Aldrich. Mr. Aldrich "Rocky" to his naval comrades was a highly decorated navy fighter pilot, a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, who served on the USS Yorktown Fighting 5 Squadron during WWII. Upon military retirement, he attended Utah State University in Logan Utah, after which he became an Engineer for IBM for over thirty years. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins games as well as playing golf, writing, reading, crossword puzzles, and after retirement, traveling. Mr. Aldrich enriched the lives of his family and friends and will be sorely missed.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Aldrich is survived by sons, Robert M. Aldrich and wife Karen of Germantown, Maryland, Wayne R. Aldrich and wife Cindy of Mt. Airy, Maryland, stepson, Larry S. Bowman and wife Mary of Seneca, South Carolina, as well as five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Aldrich was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Aldrich, and his daughter, Kathleen R. Aldrich.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 2:00 in the afternoon upstairs at The Ernie Corley Activity Center at Clemson Downs, Clemson, South Carolina. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery on February 15, 2012.
